Hypnotized by the energy and intensity of New York City, Sandra moved into her loft in the heart of the Financial District in 1977. Directly across the street from the brand-new World Trade Center, the loft would evolve to become a showroom, a production environment for her handmade clothing and accessories, a painting studio, and a home for her and her family.
Sandra’s paintings of New York– particularly from Lower Manhattan, Soho, and the Gramercy Park area– have won accolades around the world for their color and lyricism. Sandra studied with a number of prominent painters at many of New York’s major art institutions, including the Pastel Society of America, the National Academy of Design, and the Art Students’ League.
On September 11, 2001, Sandra’s studio was partially destroyed and many works were lost. (Read more about the loft after 9/11.) However, the experience of becoming a refugee in the city she loved provided Sandra with fuel for some of the most exciting works of her entire career.
